Hand Tool Woodworking

Want to build hand-tool woodworking skills? In this four-day class, we will go through sharpening and setting up tools and then start in on a project – a small breadbox. More important than finishing the project is making sure you leave with the hands-on skills to build a dovetailed box and how to do that with hand tools.

When you build your hand tool skills you can work quickly in a small space with a relatively small collection of tools. Most importantly, hand tools allow you to tap into your creativity in ways that can be limited if all you have access to is power tools.

Key Learning Points

  • Sharpening
  • Tool Set Up
  • Material selection
  • Project organization
  • How to Hand-Cut Dovetails
  • Proper planing techniques

This class is open to all skill levels. It is particularly geared towards people who want to learn or improve their hand skills. You will be chopping away waste with a mallet and chisel and developing your skill with planes and saws. Be prepared to do a lot of hand work.
