Our fully equipped shop is the scene of creative, engineering, and practical skill building work for 5 hours of instruction every day as well for free time. The skills your teen will learn here, will last a life time.
Students will learn the complete process of woodworking (designing, milling, joinery, finishing) and the proper use of machinery and hand tools. They will how learn tool set-up and proper techniques for using stationary power equipment (jointer, planer, band saw, etc) and hand tools (squares, chisels, drills, scrapers). Their project will be a small table and/or a chopping board. By the end of the class they will be able comfortably handle a wide variety of future woodworking projects.
Each student is assigned a specific workspace (where the bench, itself, can be used as a tool).
Parents this class is open both girls and boys.
Supervision ratio is high and we stress safety above all else. Students may use power tools only after they have been instructed in their safe and proper use, have spent time observing instructors in their safe and proper use, and can demonstrate to their instructors their ability to use the power tools safely themselves, including the use of protective eye gear and hearing protection.
Students should plan on bringing their own lunch and a water bottle.
There is an hour break for lunch and students will only be allowed to leave the premises with written approval from a parent.
Class starts at 9am but students can arrive as early as 8:30am. Class ends at 4:00pm and students must be picked up by 4:30pm.
Students will be allowed to check their cell phones during the three breaks during the day. Parents should call the School line at 813 223 3490 during class time so as not to disturb the student while using machinery.
