Patrick Moore
Patrick M. Moore is a renowned Canadian carpenter and construction manager, recognized for his leadership in overseeing the development of multimillion-dollar mega structures at a reputed construction firm. Outside of his core profession, Moore has gained international acclaim for his expertise in stereotomy, particularly in the traditional French craft of L’Art du Trait. With over a decade of accredited education across the globe, he became the first person from the English-speaking world to earn the distinction of Compagnon Passant Charpentier in France. He further solidified his mastery with a degree from La Grande École des Hommes de Métiers en Compagnonnage, an elite institution comparable to Ivy League schools. Additionally, he holds a degree in construction management and diplomas in heritage carpentry and masonry.
Moore’s certifications include two Red Seal Certificates in carpentry and cabinetmaking, three Gold Seal Certificates as a Construction Site Superintendent, Safety Rep., and Foreman, alongside credentials as a Construction Professional from the Project Management Institute, and designation as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO). He is affiliated with esteemed organizations such as the Association Ouvrière des Compagnons du Devoir de Tour de France, the Institute of Carpenters, the Chartered Institute of Building, and several heritage and preservation associations.
His craftsmanship is showcased in museums worldwide, including the Musée du Compagnonnage in France, the Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Québec in Canada, and the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum in Japan. Specializing in historic joinery, Moore has worked on nationally and internationally classified historical sites, including two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and various historical monuments across Europe and North America.
Moore is a prolific author, contributing to journals such as Timber Framing Journal, The Woodworker’s Journal, Australian Wood Review, the Archives of New Traditional Architecture, and Scantlings. His contributions to academic discourse have been recognized and cited by other leading publications.
In 2014, Moore founded The Professional School of Practical Stereotomy in Ottawa, Canada, where students can pursue a Master’s certificate in Stereotomy. His dedication to advancing carpentry has made him a sought-after instructor worldwide, particularly for raising the standard of craftsmanship in North America.
In 2023, Moore was granted the prestigious EB-1A Alien of Extraordinary Ability (E11) visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). His approval under this program, often referred to as the “Einstein visa,” recognizes his extraordinary achievements in the field, citing his acclaimed career, sustained national and international acclaim, and that his entry will substantially benefit the U.S.
In 2024, Moore was honored with two major awards: the Woodworking Network’s Wood Industry 40 Under 40 and the Ottawa Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 and was nominated for the Pro Builder Forty under 40 award. These awards celebrate his contributions to wood products manufacturing, excellence in business, and his standing as one of the region’s leading young professionals.
