During this five-day introduction to hand skills, Frank draws on his years working with hand tools to share with you the skills he has learned. You will learn how to sharpen and use many hand tools, including chisels, planes, and scrapers. Also, learn how to cut traditional joints that are used in most furniture construction, including dadoes, dovetails, mortise and tenons.
You will learn joinery through a series of exercises and then practise those skills by incorporating them into two simple projects – a small box with hand-cut dovetails and a small shelf with dadoes ,mortise and tenons.
This course is suitable for both beginner and intermediate users. Frank will take your hand skills to the next level through a series of lectures and practical exercises.
Even if you are not a hand tool woodworker, this class will be extremely beneficial to you. Using hand tools can take your work to the next level, with the ability to finesse joinery and do tasks faster, more efficiently, and more beautifully with hand tools.
Most people want to finish a project instead of focusing on the fundamental skills learned while doing it, making it easy to rush and miss some functions. Frank’s emphasis on traditional furniture building techniques and craft will make the creating process more informative and enjoyable.
TOOLS NEEDED: We encourage you to bring your own hand tools if you would like to, but if you are travelling or new to the craft, know that each student bench has a full suite of hand tools for use during the class.
