Handtools & Joinery – Unplugged Woodworking

March 19 - March 23 | 9:00 am - 4:30 pm


The Unplugged Workshop provides furniture making students with a hands-on workshop experience to improve joinery and hand skills. This course is ideal for understanding the art and science of using hand tools to hand cut joinery and appreciating the much quieter and compact alternative to power tools.

If you don’t have a huge shop or a ton of tools this stress free class will show you how with a few essential tools.  You will learn how to sharpen and work efficiently and easily with hand planes, chisels, and a small bandsaw. Each piece of equipment is explained and you will practice the techniques for keeping everything sharp and well-maintained. Using a combination of handtools, and just one or two small power tools you will be resawing lumber and planing it flat, to cutting joins and creating furniture.

What You’ll Learn:
Through a series of lectures and demonstrations, you will learn and practice with hand tools: tuning, sharpening, saws, chisels, hand planes,
 
dovetails, mortise and tenons, and joints.  You will also learn about bandsaws and some smaller power tools.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll hone your skills by safely using hand tools and properly practicing joinery techniques. You’ll work on sample pieces to practice the skills
 
and techniques covered in class. You can use these as models for future projects. You will also have the opportunity to work on small box that is
 
completely hand planned and put together with hand cut joinery.  Alternative projects include a  shooting board, shop mallet or small hanging
 
cabinet.

    Is this a 5 day course or a 1 day course offer 5 different days?

      Hey Cristina: This is a five day course. Its starts on Monday at 9 and finishes on the Friday.

    Are we required to bring the tools listed, or will they be supplied? The planes I would like to pickup are backordered…
