JAPANESE SLIDING LID BOX
Build a reproduction of an antique Japanese sliding-lid box using hand tools, carefully shaped finger joints and steel dome-head nails.
Based on a Japanese box found at an Australian tool sale in 2013, this chest is an excellent introduction to precision sawing and handplaning.
During this two-day class, you will make a simple sawing appliance that allows you to make the finger joints by hand and eye. You’ll also focus on tuning up your smoothing plane to leave a perfect polished finish, fit the lid so it has a nice sliding fit and chamfer the joints with a fine file.
When finished, the box is an excellent vessel for carrying your most treasured tools to future woodworking classes.
