Well-made and perfectly fitted doors are an essential part of casework construction.
This 2-day intensive class will focus on the techniques and strategies for making the two most common styles of doors used in fine furniture-making.
Day one will cover the classic frame and panel door. On day two, students will learn how to make a more contemporary flat panel door using plywood and shop-sawn veneers. Topics will include options for mortice and tenon joinery, solid wood vs plywood panels, glue-up strategies to ensure dead-flat doors, and making and pressing shop-sawn veneers.
Time will also be given to cover how to select and install high-quality hinges and how to approach the final fit of the door to the case opening.
