This two day class will introduce you to the SketchUp 3d modelling program and teach you how to use it with your furniture and cabinetry designs.
We will discuss the basic functionality of SketchUp, compare it with other 3d modelling programs, and use it to design simple furniture and cabinet designs. You will learn how to take an idea and build it virtually in order to save time and money.
You will learn how to:
Create shapes and how each toolbar button affects those shapes
Design room layouts so you can build several pieces of furniture and cabinetry
Export your work as 2D drawings for review, or as 3D modelling files for use by other CNC or 3D printing programs.
Throughout the class there will be multiple hands-on exercises and you’ll get to design several pieces of simple furniture, including the joinery. We will also delve into cabinetry.
This class is for students who are beginners to SketchUp or have been uncomfortable learning how to use it without more direct instruction.
Students will be seated for the majority of the instruction and practical exercises, so should wear comfortable clothing and have anything they would normally need when utilizing their computer (e.g. reading glasses, etc.). Please review the tool list in preparation for the class.
